EducationCalifornia Polytechnic State University-Pomona - Bachelors, Physics
ExperienceI have been tutoring for thirteen years. While attending California State University Polytechnic, I taught a wide variety of students from various ages and backgrounds. I have prepared adults for the GED exam, taught college level courses to students with learning disabilities, and helped troubled youth at elementary schools. Professionally, I am a physicist and chemist, and I draw upon my professional experiences to give my students knowledge about life skills.I tailor all of my material so that it accommodates the learning style and ability of each of my students, whether he or she is advanced or an autistic student. Each individual learns differently, some through reading, others by watching or working with their hands. It is up to the teacher to recognize these learning styles and know what student excels in with each method. Not only do I try to highlight my students' strengths, but I am willing to adapt the course to teach at a pace that helps the student understand. I don't believe in a one size fits all teaching philosophy. My teaching philosophy emphasizes patience, understanding, and a willingness to learn. I want to hear suggestions from my students so that I can be aware of what they are receptive to, as well as what doesn't work for them.
