Experience

As a classroom teacher in public schools, I have offered free tutoring to my students before and after school in reading, math and writing. I also have been a private tutor to special education and regular education students for 15 years. I was Lead Elementary Mentor and an elementary Mentor in Val Verde USD , which involved training experienced and new teachers grade K-6 in teaching best practices and strategies for all learning abilities. I have presented sessions in education/teaching strategies and informal assessment at conferences sponsored by at CAG(California Association for the Gifted), Orton/Dyslexia Society conferences, and district level inservices. I was GATE Facilitator at El Potrero Elementary in Val Verde USD for 3 years and at Covina Elementary School, Covina Valley Unified School District for 2 years. I also was senior presentor/consultant for Special Ed Services at Val Verde USD from 1988-1990.

I was a professional musician prior to completing my Special Ed. Credential. I have certified my 2 shepherd dogs as therapy dogs and we have participated in the Paws for Reading programs in my home town library. I love reading and photography and gardening. As a classroom teacher, I integrated art, drawing and writing in all subject areas. As a tutor, I strive to find the perfect fit in strategies and methods to help each student succeed and gain confidence.
